This is a little confusing. If you are really on top of your compost pile, adding a lot of greens, making sure the bin stays moist, and shredding material into small bits, you can have an active pile all winter and stir the compost.
Most people do not put that much energy into their compost pile and still get great results, it just takes a little longer and the pile goes mostly dormant in the winter.
Rock dust. From what I understand it is high in minerals and good for plants. The microbes in the compost help make those minerals accessible to the plants. I have honestly never tried it but I might try it this spring.
Is it a good idea to stir your compost in the winter? I thought you were suppose to leave it alone.
